Jones Building Exterior Rehabilitation and Stabilization

Canton, Georgia

The Jones Building is a valued historic landmark in the downtown area of Canton, Georgia. The city of Canton took ownership of the Jones building in 2017 and hired Garbutt Construction Company and Lord Aeck Sargent to execute a significant exterior renovation to this historic structure. The goal of this project was to transform the Jones Building from the eyesore it had become into the icon it once was. Because the previous renovation had left damage to the exterior façade the masonry, among other things, had to be completely refurbished. The old and worn windows were removed and taken offsite for restoration and new doors were added to the exterior of the building. There was a full interior demolition and hazardous material abatement. To complete the renovation of the Jones Building, a historically accurate storefront was constructed and added. The Jones Building is now a structure that citizens and tourists can admire as they stroll the historic downtown Canton.

Your team worked hard to remediate varied issues with lead and asbestos, troubleshooting structural anomalies that one would expect in century-old mill construction techniques, and sourced materials to make the project standout. Garbutt Construction delivered a product that we can be proud of as a City and that will be easier to market for the next phase of the building’s life.
