Herty Hall Renovation

Savannah State University

The renovation of Herty Hall was a design-bid-build project. The project team strove to preserve as many of Herty Hall’s remaining historic features as possible. Many historical elements were recycled including interior door trim and exterior trim.  Over two-thirds of the historic windows were able to be repaired leaving less than one-third to be replaced by replicas of the originals. All windows still have the existing glass in them. Through extensive planning and coordination, Herty Hall was brought up to code. An elevator, the first for the building, was installed to meet ADA accessibility requirements. A new staircase was also constructed in Herty Hall. The building is now equipped with a state of the art, wireless locking system in which the occupants utilize cards for access.
