Georgia Southern University – Paulson Stadium Infrastructure Improvements
Paulson Stadium’s Bryant Field is home to the Georgia Southern Eagles football team. Georgia Southern selected Garbutt Construction Company as the construction manager to carry out the transformations. Among the major items addressed were storm water drainage, data and fiber communication needs, increased electrical requirements, irrigation waterlines, as well as, new synthetic turf to replace the natural turf on the field.
Bryant Field was stripped of its natural turf and recovered with Shaw’s Legion 41 system, a two-inch, dual fiber system that combines slit film, the most durable synthetic fiber turf, and a monofilament film, which gives the field excellent performance and aesthetic qualities. An impressive aspect of the new turf is its ability to cope with South Georgia’s heat through HydroChill. HydroChill is an evaporating cooling system installed underneath the field to help cool the turf the same way the human body cools itself through sweating. This technology is the only patented technology of its kind and is guaranteed to cool the field to at least 30 degrees lower than a standard synthetic turf field.
The installation of Shaw’s synthetic turf made a new drainage system a must for Bryant Field, an area already vulnerable to flooding. Garbutt Construction Company rerouted and enhanced the capabilities of the data and fiber at Paulson Stadium. At the stadium, data and fiber run things like the scoreboard and game clocks. The data and fiber also allows ESPN to access cameras, game clocks, and other information during a home football game.
