Montgomery County Courthouse
Mt. Vernon, Georgia
Loose
floorboards. Leaks. No air conditioning. Inadequate heating. Ruined
tiles in the ceramic flooring. Electrical problems. Plumbing problems.
Fire and safety systems not up to code. Montgomery County residents
were proud of their turn-of-the-century courthouse, but still they
knew:
…some serious work
had to be done
if they wanted to save their
architectural and historic jewel.
Enter Garbutt Construction. A three-phase project
and 1.5 million dollars later, the ceramic tile flooring in the hallways
and foyers now gleam like new. From the arched windows with their
ornamental keystones to the individual reclining chairs in the jurors’ box,
from the expanses of restored pine flooring to the four tile fireplaces
adding character to the courtroom,
Now everything old is new again.
To
make it even better, the Montgomery County Courthouse Project earned
Garbutt Construction the highest honor that can be bestowed on a restoration
by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.
