Montgomery County's current courthouse was completed in 1907. After more than 80 years of use, the courthouse was in serious disrepair, with loose floorboards, leaks, broken tile flooring, electrical and other safety issues as well as no air conditioning and inadequate heating,
In early 1991, Montgomery County brought in Garbutt Construction to restore their landmark turn-of-the-century courthouse. In a three-phase project, the ceramic tile floors, arched windows with ornamental keystones, pine flooring, tile fireplaces and every other detail was been brought back to its original stunning character. Updates to the infrastructure were also added. Today, the courthouse is a safe, majestic building and a source of pride in the community.
For its work on the Montgomery County Courthouse, Garbutt Construction received the highest honor possible for a restoration from the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.
