Swainsboro refers to its intersection of U.S. 1 and U.S. 80 as the place “where Main Streets meet.” But today it’s much more than the place where north/south and east/west travelers cross paths. The old county courthouse which once stood there is gone, but in its place Garbutt Construction has built a beautiful new streetscape, featuring a refurbished welcome center and a serene central park, replete with fountain and lush landscaping. Garbutt took special care to incorporate existing important historical features into the streetscape, such as the loafer’s bench and memorials.
Thanks to an ISTEA grant, the progressive citizenry of Swainsboro and Garbutt Construction, the entire community now enjoys the comfort of history and the pride of this unique public area.
